The University of North Carolina (UNC) system includes 17 public institutions, 16 of which grant baccalaureate or higher degrees plus one residential high school for gifted students (NC School of Science and Mathematics). Legal authority and operating control are held by the UNC Board of Governors, and management oversight is provided by the UNC-General Administration (UNC-GA).
